Raymond Dunagan
COFFEEVILLE - Raymond Dunagan, a truck driver, died Tuesday in Winn,
Ala. He was 58.
Dunagan was a native and resident of Coffeeville, where he was a member
of Bethel Church.
Survivors include his wife, Yvonne Morgan Dunagan of Coffeeville; one
son, Brad Dunagan of Coffeeville; one daughter, Crystal Dunagan of Coffeeville;
three brothers, Cleveland Dunagan, Roy Dunagan and Jerry Dunagan, all of
Coffeeville; one sister, Mary Keel of Lucedale, Miss.; and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church,
where the funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday. Interment will take
place in the church cemetery. Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson is handling
arrangements.
Eleanor Crockett Ball
EL PASO, Texas - Eleanor Crockett Ball, a former employee of Lerners
Shops, died Saturday. She was 56.
Mrs. Ball, a native Mobilian, resided in El Paso nearly 15 years. She
was a member of Bethel AME Church in Mobile.
Survivors include two daughters, Monica Ball of El Paso and Domonic
Joseph of Augusta, Ga.; one son, Richard Ball Jr. of El Paso; her father,
Thomas Crockett; eight sisters, Thelma Rencher, Marie Meggs, Anna Thomas,
Bernice Crockett, Jennifer Crockett, Pattie Crockett, Meltoria Crockett
and Elkie Williams; three brothers, Gregory Crockett, Keith Crockett and
Tommy Crockett; and five grandchildren.
Memorial services are set from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday in the chapel
of San Jose Funeral Home of El Paso.
Alice Sue Watson
Alice Sue Watson, a homemaker, died Tuesday in a local hospital.
Mrs. Watson, 59, was a native of Birmingham and a resident of Eight
Mile.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Netherland and Deborah Dearmon,
both of Mobile; one sister, Pearl Young of Mobile; and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Radney Funeral Home
on Dauphin Street. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Temple
Baptist Church with interment in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
Helen Diane Powell
Helen Diane Powell, a 1973 graduate of C.F. Vigor High School, died
Sunday at the age of 43.
The native Mobilian resided in Plateau.
She received her certificate in early childhood education from Bishop
State Community College. She joined Union Missionary Baptist Church at
an early age and was an active member.
Survivors include her parents, C.T. and Trimmie Lee Powell of Mobile;
and four sisters, Ruby Dickinson, Carolyn Janice Powell, Mary Ann Powell
and Angela Denise Powell, all of Mobile.
Visitation will be Saturday at Union Missionary Baptist Church from
9 a.m. until the noon service time. Interment will take place in Plateau
Cemetery. Reese Funeral Home in Prichard is handling arrangements.
Ruby Turner Rogers
BUTLER - Ruby Turner Rogers, a homemaker and resident of Butler, died
Sunday in an area nursing facility.
Mrs. Rogers, 88, was a native Alabamian residing in Butler.
Survivors include four daughters, Eloise Kelley of Butler, Lois Todd
and Faye Mosley, both of Gilbertown, Ala., and Jeanette Buchanan of Toxey,
Ala.; one stepson, Robert Rogers of Tuscaloosa; one stepdaughter, Elizabeth
Chain of Talladega, Ala.; one sister, Bertha Jimerson of Satsuma; one brother,
R. G. Turner of Satsuma; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and
four great-great-grandchildren.
Services are set for 3 p.m. today at Bumpers Funeral Home in Butler
with interment in Brightwater Cemetery in Needham, Ala.
James Curtis Goff
BUTLER - James Curtis Goff, a retiree of James River Corp., died Sunday
in Butler at the age of 67.
A native of Mississippi, Goff resided in Butler.. He was a veteran.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Goff and Gene Goff, both of Butler;
one brother, Owen Goff of Camden, Ala.; and three sisters, Nettie Silverking
of Jackson, Miss., Geneve Musemack of Orange, Texas, and Eva Hinton of
Brooklyn, Miss.
Visitation will be from today 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Bumpers Funeral
Home in Butler, where services are set for 3 p.m. Wednesday. Interment
will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Butler.
Harold W. Byrd
ATMORE - Harold W. Byrd, retired owner of Byrd Grocery, died Monday
in Atmore. He was 78.
Byrd, a native of Bratt, Fla., resided in Atmore.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline W. Byrd of Atmore; two daughters,
JoAnn Blackwell of Uriah, Ala., and Shelia B. Rogers of Atmore; six grandchildren;
and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby
Funeral Home in Atmore, where services are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday. Interment
will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
"Kit" Ott
THOMASTON - Francis Reynolds "Kit" Ott, who worked as an engineer with
the Alabama highway department, died Sunday in an area hospital. He was
68.
Ott, a native of Selma, resided in Thomaston. He was a veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Ott of Thomaston; one daughter, Dawn
Beverly of Linden, Ala.; and three granddaughters.
Visitation will be today from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at O'Bryant Chapel
Funeral Home in Linden, where services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Interment will be in Thomaston Cemetery.
Charles H. Burch II
Charles H. Burch II, who worked as a service technician, died Sunday
in a local hospital at the age of 51.
Burch was a native and resident of Mobile.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Davis Burch of Mobile; his parents,
Rosemary and Cliff Burch of Mobile; one brother, Norman C. Burch Jr. of
Maysville, Ky.; and one sister, Patricia B. McCrory of Mobile.

Funeral Home, where services are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday. Interment will

Virginia Wiggins
Virginia Wiggins, a Washington County native and longtime resident of
Saraland, died Saturday in a local health-care facility. She was 83.
Survivors include one son, Louis Weaver of Glendale, Calif.; three sisters,
Birtha Reed of Richland, Mo., Dorothy Reed of Citronelle and Carlis Taylor
of Saraland; four brothers, Frank Reed of Chickasaw, Chuck Reed and Mac
Reed, both of Phoenix, Ariz., and Edward Reed of Marrero, La.; six grandchildren;
and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home
in Saraland. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hill Spring Assembly
of God Church with interment in the church cemetery.
Frances Malone Stewart
Frances Malone Stewart, a native of Whistler and resident of Chunchula,
died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was 83.
She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of the Mobile area.
She is survived by three daughters, Carolyn Skipper of Chunchula, Claire
Hill of Mobile and Janet Milby of Semmes; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. today in Lott Road
Baptist Church Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Valhalla Memorial Funeral Home.
Inez Gordon Calhoun Whisenhunt
GROVE HILL - Inez Gordon Calhoun Whisenhunt, a former teacher with the
Jefferson County School Board, died Tuesday in a local hospital.
Mrs. Whisenhunt, 90, resided in Grove Hill. She was a former bank director
at First Bank and Trust in Grove Hill
Her memberships include the Study Club in Grove Hill, the Daughters
of the American Revolution, and the historical society.
Survivors include two nephews, Steve Gordon and John C. Gordon, both
of Grove Hill; and one niece, Susan G. Jones of Grove Hill.
Visitation will be today at Grove Hill First Baptist Church from 10
a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral. Interment will take place in the Grove
Hill Cemetery. Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill is in charge.
Johnny P. Dailey
TUNNEL SPRINGS - Johnny P. Dailey, a retired teacher, died Monday in
an area hospital. He was 85.
Dailey, a Monroe County native, resided in Tunnel Springs. He was a
member of Antioch Baptist Church were he served as a deacon.
Survivors include his wife, Johnnie Mae Dailey of Tunnel Springs; eight
sons, William J. Dailey, William B. Dailey and Timothy Cunningham, all
of Pensacola, Mark Randelson of Mobile, Donald Cunningham of Union Springs,
Ala., Clevis Cunningham of Washington, D.C., Robert Cunningham of Tunnel
Springs and Willie Cunningham of Louisville, Ky.; nine daughters, Mary
Rodgers, Sara Vernice Falls and Brownie Blevins, all of Pensacola, Mary
Howard of Beatrice, Ala., Shirley English, Laura Woods, Kawarna White and
Consuella Dailey, all of Tunnel Springs, and Annie Grace of Shorter, Ala.;
14 grandchildren; and a several great-grandchildren.
Services are set for 2 p.m. Monday at Antioch Baptist Church with interment
in the church cemetery. Jones Unity Funeral Home in Monroeville is handling
arrangements.
Charlie Casher
Charlie Casher, who had worked as a self-employed landscaper, died Saturday
in a local health-care facility.
Casher, 90, was a native of Theodore and a resident of Mobile.
Survivors include one son, James Casher of Columbus, Ohio; one stepdaughter,
Doris Walker of Mobile; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services are set for 11 a.m. Thursday at Christian Benevolent Funeral
Home, with visitation from 10 a.m. until services. Interment will be in
Casher Cemetery.
John Lauzine LeFlore Jr.
VICTORVILLE, Calif. - John Lauzine LeFlore Jr., a union representative
and native Mobilian died Saturday.
LeFlore, 75, resided in Victorville. He was a union representative for
the United Brotherhood of Teamsters as well as a member of the National
Maritime Union and the New York Transportation Union. He retired from the
Teamsters in 1983.
A civil rights activist, he was a life member of the NAACP.
He was the son of the late Mobile civil-rights activist, John LeFlore,
for whom LeFlore High School is named.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian Henry LeFlore of Victorville; three
sons, Ralph Bunche LeFlore and Christopher LeFlore, both of Victorville,
and John L. LeFlore III of San Francisco; one stepson, Phythias Henry of
Mobile; one brother, Dr. Walker LeFlore of Mobile; and one sister, Eleanor
Townsend of Atlanta.
A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Timothy
Episcopal Church in Compton, Calif.
Memorials may be made to the United Negro College Fund.
Sara Tillman Jeffery
ATHENS, Ala. - Sara Tillman Jeffery, who taught private piano lessons
for 54 years, died Wednesday at her residence. She was 81.
Mrs. Jeffery was a lifelong resident of Limestone County, having lived
in the Elkmont community as a child and in Athens the rest of her life.
A graduate of Athens State College, she studied at the Juliard School
of Music in New York.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she served
as president of the United Methodist Women and as pianist of a Sunday school
class She was also a member of the Athenian Study Club.
Survivors include two sons, Wallace G. Jeffery Jr. of Mobile and William
T. Jeffery of Florence, Ala.; and five grandchildren.
The funeral is set for 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church
of Athens with visitation from 9 a.m. until service time. Private burial
will take place in the Athens City Cemetery. Limestone Chapel Funeral Home
of Athens in charge.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, or a favorite
charity.
Veva McIlwain
THOMASVILLE - Veva McIlwain, a homemaker and member of Mount Vernon
Baptist Church of Thomasville, died Tuesday in a Mobile hospital.
Mrs. McIlwain, 92, was a native of Buckatunna, Miss., and a resident
of Thomasville.
Survivors include one son, George M. McIlwain of Chatom; two daughters,
Christine Davidson of Thomasville and Maxcine Robbins of DeFuniak Springs,
Fla.; two brothers, Frank Rigney of Lizella, Ga., and J.B. Rigney of Daytona
Beach, Fla.; six stepchildren; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren;
numerous stepgrandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Lathan Funeral Home
in Chatom. Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Friday at South Oak Grove
Baptist Church of Fruitdale, Ala. Interment will take place in Grace Williams
Cemetery in Fruitdale.
Samuel Tommie Richardson
LAVACA - Samuel Tommie Richardson, who worked as an electrician, died
Tuesday in Lavaca.
Richardson, 64, an Alabama native, resided in Lavaca.
Survivors include his mother, Flossie Porter of Lavaca; two daughters,
Sabrina Jones of Butler, Ala., and Beverly Speegle of Birmingham; two sons,
Allen Richardson of Pennington, Ala., and John Parker Richardson of Springfield,
Ill.; two sisters, Juanita Lott of West Point, Ga., and Lorene Norwood
of Lavaca; and 11 grandchildren.
Services are set for 2 p.m. today at Hopewell Baptist Church with interment
